I think the best story is Emma Holly's. She always delivers on steamy scenes while blending in a good dose of humor. Knight and Shayne's stories were also great, Knight's probably winning out over Shayne's due to better character development and number of erotic scenes. I couldn't make it through Feehan's story. I'm not a fan of stories in which the women seem forced into sexual relationships so I wouldn't recommend that to anyone with similar feelings. There are some great erotic stories with dominant women in which the women still make choices and Feehan's tales seem to be so caught up in the "destined to be together" that they forget the importance of female agency. The other three stories make the collection well worth the price of the book and I would recommend it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Ugh. Damn it- I had such high hopes! But you should read Holly's anyway...By msorensenMy overall rating for this anthology is only 2 stars. Basically, I read this because I wanted to get a feel for the three authors I wasn't familiar with (Shayne, Knight Holly). Over all I was disappointed. Knight's was the story I really wanted to read and I just hated it. Such a shame.1) Feehan's Dark Hunger: 3 stars. I am a fan of Feehan's Fairhaven series, but not familiar with the Carpathians. This story falls somewhere around #8 in that line up, I think. As a short story, this was only marginally well done. There was just too much going on for it to stand totally on its own. I could tell I missed a ton by not reading the other books first. That said, the passion was good, I liked the characters and I am moved to go back and read the rest of the series.2) Shayne's Awaiting Moonlight: 2 stars. Definitely stands ok on its own as a short story, but it was really thin. Although the story itself was entertaining, I have NO idea how the hell the characters actually fell in LOVE by the time it was over. Developed an attraction, maybe even a kinship- sure, but LOVE. No. I didn't buy it. The female lead was a bit annoying, but the male was mysterious and sexy. The story was told only from the woman's perspective and seemed to suffer for it. There wasn't a whole lot of mystery or tension here.3) Holly's Night Owl: 4 stars. Good story. Stands on its own very well. I liked both leads and the supporting characters. Holly managed to write from both perspectives- the male and female- which lent added depth without pushing the limits of the short story form. I have not read anything else, but it looks like this story is part of a loosely linked series. It says a lot for the story that I didn't mind not reading any of the others. But you can bet I'm going to find them now!4) Knight's Seduction's Gift: 1 STAR. It was terrible. A real disappointment. Honestly, this story had by far the most compelling concept and creative ideas. However, it was ill-suited to the short story form. There was so much to keep track of, half of the reading was just trying to understand the context. It didn't leave a lot of room for the actual plot to unfold and it showed. Very, very weak development. The female lead had a fabulous set up- cop, descended from Morgana, history with other characters. But BOY OH BOY was that a waste. She basically came across as a VERY easy lay. (Sorry to be crass.) She literally jumped into having sex with the male love interest, Lancelot, despite the fact that the most important plot element upon which the tension was built was her UNWILLINGNESS to do so. It was a very aggravating story. The resistance to sexual relations basically amounted to lip service.Imagine: "No. Go away. No! Grrr, fine! NOW, go away. Ok, wait, do that again... I want more!"There was definitely NO ROMANCE, though some blatant seduction driven not by love, but by duty, and in fact there were some passing references made to potentially vicious sexual predation which I just found totally uncalled for. It added nothing to the story and made me push back even harder against the impending relationship. The resolution to the plot was pure force, no finesse. The end of the story felt like our heroine lost, not won. I thought the concept of this universe was one I would really love. THIS STORY WAS THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS ANTHOLOGY- and I couldn't be more disappointed. Not at all certain I'll read any more from Knight. BUT, it could just be that the short story form is not her forte.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Hot BloodedBy Little RomaAt first, I was stunned to see this had arrived in the mail for me, because I honestly did not remember purchasing it, but I'm happy that I did anyways. I'd been meaning to get it to complete my Dark Series collection, and now I'm caught up with all of them; except for the new ones of course. The book was in very good condition. No scuff marks, spine damage, or ripped pages; why wasn't this listed as new That's what it looked like to me. I'm very happy that I picked this seller because the item came to me quickly. I'm just happy.I liked 3 of the 4 stories contained within this book. The only one that got on my nerves because of the words used was, I believe, the last one; the one with Magis I'm all for sexual liberation and choosing who we decide to see us in the nude, but I don't appreciate the immlication that a womans will can be so easily underminded with sex, when men are no better. But that's all I wish to say about that story in particular. Didn't like Angela Knight's one, but the other 3 were good/great.I have no problem with Angela Knight, just didn't like THAT particular story and/or series.See all 84 customer reviews...
