ZawilskiSince I have Kindle Unlimited, I don't buy that many books. An author has to be really good to make the cut, and Ms. Medeiros definitely does. She writes well technically with good syntax, vocabulary and dialogue. I often skim romances, and think they are too long, but this author's books keep me interested the whole way. The characters were well drawn and sympathetic. There was droll humor. Generally I don't like humor in a romance, (don't get me started on "madcap," ugh) but when done skillfully with a light hand, it can be delightful, as in this book. Did I guess the twist Yes, not immediately but before the reveal. This didn't spoil the book for me in the least, and I was interested to see how things would play out afterward. There are very few authors in the romance genre who can touch Teresa Medeiros for the sheer ability to tell a ripping good tale.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Yours Until DawnBy Romantic at HeartThis is a great book. It is one I read again and again. I will try to write this review without giving the twist away, even though I know other reviewers already did. It is really a shame that people wrote the twist in their review as I think it would take most people by surprise.I find the banter between Gabriel and Samantha witty and engaging. First Gabriel is just a mean angry person who growls and throws things. He is walling in self-pity. His family treats him like an invalid and his betroth ran off after he was injured. I liked the fact that he starts challenging Samantha to try to get her to quit. He doesn't realize it at the time, but she is bringing him back to life, and he is forgetting about his self-pity. He is just starting to turn around, and he is given another devastating blow. Then some things happen and he realizes he does want to live, and be able to do things for himself. He also eventual figures out he is in love with Samantha even though he doesn't know what she looks likes. Even with the risk that one day he may be able to see her, and she may be ugly he wants to marry her. He doesn't care. He loves the person she is inside. He also doesn't care that she is a servant. That is sweet and romantic.I find I total disagree with all the low reviews. They called Samantha, shallow, mean and cruel. I do understand that at the end when she makes mistakes again, it does seem kind of mean, and she does try to right then all at the very end. But she sees the whole thing different then we do. She has her reasons. Not saying they are correct, but not everyone is perfect. She is not trying to be mean and cruel. Her guilt for her previous mistakes just makes her not able to face up to it, and what Gabriel will think about her. She tried to correct those mistakes and to atone for them. Some unexpected things happened trying to do that, and she got in a little too deep. But she did a considerable amount of good too. I will say I was a little disappointed with Gabriel's actions with Cecily at the end. But I have to write that off as a few different things so as not to make it ruin the story for me. One it is possible to still have strong feelings for Cecily even after what he thought she had done, and still be in love with Samantha. He never really got to have resolution with that relationship. Also since everything Samantha told him was a lie, and he could not find her, in the back of his mind he probably believes he will never see her again. She vanished. Even the Bow Street Runners gave up, because they could not find a trace of her. Even though she doesn't say this, he may think he may never return. Look what happened the first time he was in the Royal Navy. Also it is possible that subconsciously he knew the truth. You would think you would have to know somewhere in his mind or his heart, it would register since you were totally in love with that person, and had been intimate with them. You will have to read the book to see what I mean by that. Or some of the other reviews can give you an idea of what that means. I am just not sure why a few people took the plot twist so bad. And TM could have ended differently that night after Cecily and Gabriel see each other at the ball. That would have eliminate people being upset about what happened with Cecily and Gabriel. Or she couldn't end it different with Samantha staying and confessing the truth, but she wanted to add some drama at the end since the book was most about Samantha and Gabriel getting to know each other and them falling in love. As well as his struggle with blindness and his scar.I usually like more hot intimate love scenes in a book. This one is a little light, but I found I really enjoyed the book so much it doesn't bother me. I didn't want to put the book down. Ignore the bad reviews and what those people are complaining about. People have different options and I just didn't agree with most of the things they didn't like. Just like the person that complained about her telling him to shot himself. They were not listening to the whole conversation, and what her goal was. All the 4 and 5 star reviews should tell you all you need to know. You may be one of those who don't like it though and I would be sorry to have wasted you time. However as I am writing this only 7 out of 122 views rated this a 1 or 2 stars and 101 out of 122 rated it a 4 or 5 stars. I will say if you are one of those people that like everything perfect in a book don't read it. As I can see some errors in a few things she wrote, but they are not a big issue. These are romance books and everything does not have to be perfect and true. If they were exactly like it was back then, I doubt you would want to be reading about it. People didn't take care of their teeth, so their breath was really bad, they didn't take baths that often, rape murder, robbery, and other crimes were a normal thing as people took what they wanted, so women were treated badly most of the time.Sex content light/medium.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.Great 2/3, not so great last third. It does have a HEA.By windlichtI agree with other reviews: The (quite predictable) "twist" was unfortunate. Up to that point, the story was lovely. I hoped the story would not turn in the direction it clearly steered. Alas, it did. We've got our HEA but the last third of the story kind of ... Well, I wouldn't say ruined but definitely diminished it. It was actually ridiculous. I mean, really I didn't just witness a literary twist but also a change in the hero's and heroine's characters that turned a lovely story into a somewhat stale substitute. It almost seems as if a different authors created it. Really very unfortunate.Overall a good novel that could have been great.See all 149 customer reviews... V.
