He was a very imperfect man with views that not many would agree with today. He also had a singular talent: Using the stuffy, serious Atlanta Constitution (Now the AJC) to make people laugh. If you are from anywhere near Atlanta, and you are over about 30 years old, you probably know Lewis and his good-ole boy comedy, expressed in his daily column, stage shows, and even a guest appearance on Designing Women. In this volume of short essays, originally printed in his newspaper column, he is at the top of his game, recounting the funnier aspects of his youth in rural Coweta County, career is the newspaper industry, observations of Chicago (where he lived for a while), and Atlanta the way it used to be. For a metro Atlanta native like me, it's full of familiar territory and the type of nostalgia best seen through rose-colored glasses. I'm sure he had many years of humor writing left in him when he passed away from heart disease at the tender age of 47. RiceI have read an occasional column penned by Lewis Grizzard over the years, but what a delight to find "Kathy Sue Loudermilk, I Love You", his first book, offered on Kindle. His wit, wisdom and observations flow easily through the loosely woven threads of the sections of the books. Grizzard had a delightful ability to turn a phrase which was so illustrative you got a clear picture of the scenario he was painting with words. Like a song running constantly through your mind, his images and characterizations of those he encountered through his early career as journalist and columnist stay with you and keep you entertained long after you put the book/Kindle down. His stories are not just for the south, but anyone in any area. Mr. Grizzard died at an early age but he lives own through his books. Entertaining, thought provoking and admiration of fellow friends, writers and the ordinary worker. He will tell the rest of the story. Take a load off, sit a spell and enjoy an entertaining story or two. You will stand up refreshed for the yesterday for a while.See all 36 customer reviews...
